A Sintered SmCo Magnet, a type of rare earth magnet, is a strong permanent magnet made of an alloy of samarium and cobalt. They were developed in the early 1970s. They are generally the second-strongest type of magnet made, less strong than neodymium magnets, but have higher temperature ratings and higher coercivity. They are brittle, and prone to cracking and chipping. Samarium–cobalt magnets have maximum energy products (BHmax) that range from 16 megagauss-oersteds (MGOe) to 32 MGOe, that is approx. 128 kJ/m3 to 256 kJ/m3; their theoretical limit is 34 MGOe, about 272 kJ/m3. They are available in two “seriesâ€, namely Series 1:5 and Series 2:17.
SmCo Magnet (Sintered SmCo Magnet) is a high performance, low temperature coefficient permanent magnet with its high working temperature – 350 degree centigrade. When working above 180 degree centigrade, SmCo Magnet (Sintered SmCo Magnet) maximum energy product BH and steady temperature are superior than NdFeB magnetic materials. SmCo Magnet (Sintered SmCo Magnet) needn’t to be coated because it is difficult to be eroded and oxidized. Sintered SmCo is widely used in motors, watch, transducers, instruments, positional detector, generators, radar communications, medical equipments, various magnetism spreading devices, magnetic processor, electrical engineering and magnetic derrick.
Sintered SmCo Magnet Feature:
1) Very high magnetic properties with good stability
2) Superior resistance to high temperature
3) Curie temperature of majority is over 800oC
4) Excellent corrosion resistance capability5) No coating is needed for surface protection.
SmCo Magnets is made of thulium samarium and transition metal cobalt, iron and copper. It is the second generation of thulium magnet. SmCo Magnets has not only high Energy Product(14—28MGOe)and reliable coercive force, but also good temperature trait. Compared to NdFeB magnet, with valu Sm and Co in it. SmCo Magnets is suitable to high temperature. Since this material contents more percentage of valuable Sm and Co, the application is therefore not wider than others.
